HEALIN commenced community mapping and selection for the RIVSACA HAF2 Project in four target Local government Areas in Rivers State. The four LGAs include Ahoada East , Emuohua, Kaana and Ikwere LGA of Rivers State. HEALIN is to work in five communities in each of these LGAs. The HEALIN team, led by Ms. Gift Godwin, visited Kaana LACA on Monday 30th June,2014 for Advocacy and familiarization meeting with the LACA team. In the course of the meeting, the LACA manager, Mrs. Konibari Alo said that project was a welcome development as the LGA has a prevalence rate of 8.7% which she attributed to factors like the presence of the school community, proximity to Bony community which is known for its high commercial sex activities and the presence of the trailer park. She added that some NGO’s have carried out similar activities in the LGA in the recent past but have not had sustainability strategy for the project and as a result Upon exit the people tend to go back to their old practice. She commended HEAL IN for designing the project with sustainability in view.Towards the end of the meeting, the LACA team helped the HEAL IN team select five target communities (Bori, Boue, Lueku, Lore and Taaba) and the LACA M&E went with HEALIN on advocacy visit to three of the communities during which arrangements were concluded for open community meeting and Baseline exercise to be carried out in one of the communities on Thursday 3rd July 2014.
